Why Parking Time Matters More Than You Think
Your clock doesn’t care whether wheels are turning. The search and walk from a car space quietly adds ten to twenty minutes a day in dense areas, while scooters slide into closer, cheaper spots or designated motorcycle bays. That difference shows up as calmer mornings, earlier arrivals and—if you value your time—real money.
Tolls and Bridges Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All
Scooters are often charged the motorcycle rate where separate categories exist, and some bridges or facilities treat them differently than cars. If you cross tolled spans, enter your real daily number in the calculator. You’ll see quickly whether a scooter erases a pain point or simply shrinks it.
Gas or Electric—Both Can Win
Gas scooters remain simple, universal and thrifty, especially at 80–100 MPG. Electric scooters trade fuel stops for home charging, with energy costs that can feel tiny depending on your rates. In the calculator, pick Gas or Electric and we’ll switch the math. Either way, the biggest savings often come from parking and time, not just the pump.

Calculator Questions—Answered
What should I enter for “search & walk time”?
Estimate how long you spend finding a car space and walking to your door each trip. For scooters, use the shorter walk from closer parking or a motorcycle bay.
Does the calculator include insurance differences?
Yes. Enter your monthly car and scooter insurance. Many riders see a friendlier scooter rate, but use your real quotes for accuracy.
How do I account for non-commute miles?
Use “Other weekly miles.” We’ll roll them into your monthly total so weekend errands and evening rides are reflected in fuel or energy and maintenance.
Can I compare against an electric car?
Sure. Replace “Car fuel economy (MPG)” with an equivalent cost per mile: divide your EV’s kWh/100mi by 33.7 to get MPGe, or directly estimate cost per mile and enter it via a higher “maint. $/mile” to approximate.
Why don’t you pull live gas or electricity prices?
Local rates vary by the block and by the week. Enter your current numbers for the most realistic result.
